MTV Iggy’s The MusicExperiment
In the spring of 2012, I worked with the Omnigon team to design & build MTV Iggy’s new site The MusicExperiment. We were given a creative brief that highlight MTV Iggy’s desired interaction model. Under a tight timeframe, we not only developed a comprehensive website, tablet, and mobile experience, but we also had a lot of fun. My role as Senior UX & Product Designer & Project Manager was to help guide the client through the analysis, concept, design, and development process.
Define & Design a compelling solution for MTV Iggy’s vision of theThe MusicExperiment within a very short time period.
MTV Iggy’s Team came to us with a concept: 4 Concerts in 4 Cities with 4 Bands to see live. All Free Shows, thanks to sponsors Intel & MTVIggy. The catch was that users would have to claim tickets from a small set from 5 random locations throughout each city. The only way to find these locations was to tweet a hashtag at the MTVIggy MusicExperiment Twitter account. Each tweet would increase the zoom level on the map of each city. With enough tweets, the map would eventually reveal the secret ticket locations and interactions on when to claim them.
As we looked to create a unique experience, we also had to content with differing technology sets on three different platforms. Creating a desktop experience would be simple, the trick was determining how to do so effectively upon tablets and mobile phones. We could not use Flash and there were severe limitations to what technology could provide and what was envisioned. We had to craft a custom experience that would degrade gracefully while exceeding the user’s expectations. We did not have time or resources to build native iOS and Android applications, so we built a responsive design HTML5 site that worked on every platform.
We worked upon the the entire project including research, definition, visual design, branding, user experience design, wireframing, design, development, deployment, and testing.
The project was a hit and well received in 2012 across the country. Four Shows. Four Cities. Four Bands. Hundreds of Thousands of memories created at the show with the help of an Instagram photo booth.
