iPhone Goodness
September 9, 2007 on 5:57 pm | In moblog | No CommentsThere’s quite a bit of goodness out there on the iPhone. It’s great that Steve Jobs announced the new prices - then moved quickly announce the rebate for early adopters. some people were pissed off about it on the ITP list - and their attitudes really unnerved me - who cares if early adopters get rebates? it amazes me how much sense of entitlement some people have - it definitely made me think. anyway - bravo Steve. great design and innovation may not be for everyone - with anything in life, remember the core of what you are doing - then make sure you do it the best as you can possibly do.

adventures in iPhoneland
September 3, 2007 on 2:34 pm | In moblog | No Commentsso i went to an apple iPhone tech talk this past friday. the talk was mostly good - some good talks about design principles and UI considerations. i had been wanting to get an iPhone like most other ppl - but figured that i shouldn’t break my credo of NEVER buying the first release.
well i caved.
i had been looking on craigslist and i found a seemingly good deal ten days ago (yes i was looking before the tech talk) and somehow i passed it up because of second thoughts. once those subsided in the tech talk - i closed the deal after the talk.
so far - i like it. it’s an intriguiging device. so far, i’ve been using it as a wi-fi ipod. i spent a few days reading up on how to break into the phone, install apps, and bypass the carrier. it seems like there are lots of ppl claiming they can unlock the iPhone - but i found three apps that worked on my G4 powerbook/iPhone combination.
first i tried iFuntastic, but that is Intel Mac only. Since I was not in front of my mactel - i had to find the G4 solution. I downloaded AppTapp - though I got it from this NullRiver URL: http://iphone.nullriver.com/beta/
you could easily go here: http://www.apptapp.com/index/download
once i installed AppTapp - i was able to unlock the phone and install lots of great apps, but i could not register the phone. since the iPhone i got was two months old - i knew the phone was already activated. but after playing with it for a bit - and resetting it a few times - i lost the registration and was locked out. so i used iActivator: http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/IActivator
now my iPhone has some great apps on the phone and it is unlocked for my pre-existing sim card. I tried to use my other sim card - but no luck. so until i really unlock the iPhone - i can use my existing sim card and some great additional apps!
there are some seemingly great games too: http://www.deliciousmonster.org/
and even NES - though i have not downloaded any ROMS yet: http://iphone.natetrue.com/nesapp/
these links and apps are all experimental - their authors have loads of disclaimers. so be careful, but have fun!
fiction.
February 27, 2007 on 2:02 am | In moblog | No Commentsi’ve been writing some fiction as of late. i’ve tossed around some ideas in my head for some time, i thought about writing some pieces before, but good creative fiction takes time. so i have finally written some - but i’ve been holding back from posting them. it’s not so easy to give up that, i’m sure you understand. still a friend kept encouraging me to post a few lines.
so while i’m holding back the text (yes you can complain if you like - but they’re not ready for primetime yet) here’s a small sampling:
chapter 2: dad’s been stealing chocolates again…
chapter 5: you + that damn song that you can’t stop singing is burning a hole in my eardrum.
chapter 9: dramamine does not make me sleepy.
idle sketchings

one year later + i still have your fur on my clothes
February 20, 2007 on 2:53 am | In moblog | No Commentswe lost little zekey boy last year on the 20th. he put up a valiant effort - still trying to crawl into your lap at 15 years 8 months. i don’t think it ever gets any easier - this one’s for you little buddy.
i made spicy tom yum soup
February 19, 2007 on 1:57 pm | In moblog | No Commentslooks good right? well i had a little help. a friend asked me for the recipe, so here it is. in most thai/asian-ethnic supermarkets, and even in most major chains, you can find the pre-made soup packets. i think i used ‘a taste of thai’ for the base.
looking at the package, it described using egg noddles. hawk and jared were over, so i had to ‘grow’ the soup. i had about a 1/4 package of spaghetti left over, which i started to boil. upon opening the package, I discovered the soup came with the noodles along with the spice mixtures. after the spaghetti and egg noddles had been drained and blanched, i followed the directions on the package. i boiled twice the amount of water, added 5 thin chicken breasts, which had been sliced in slivers. i let this mixture boil, to which i added the juice from 1.5 limes, 1.5 chopped jalapenos, 2 tomatoes, 10 sliced mushrooms, cilantro (ok i didn’t add cilantro - as i had run out. a rare occurrence in my place), 1 tablespoon of spicy thai chili sauce. and - two teaspoons of a spicy tom yum mix my aunt gave me.
without the base package and the soup mix (bottled and available in most thai markets) - i would not have been able to make the soup. but what i WAS able to do was improvise. i added ingredients in my fridge and made a really spicy soup. hawk ate some, fell off the computer, and passed out.
eat well, be well. ![]()
